Romania's annual inflation rate reached 8.62% in April this year, a lower level than last month when the inflation grew to 8.63% representing the maximum rate registered in the last two years, a National Statistics Institute report shows. Moreover, the Consumption Price Index, the indicator measuring the inflation grew by 0.67% in March.

Romania's National Bank governor Mugur Isarescu announced in April that the inflation rate would maintain at the same level as in March but it would gradually decrease starting with August this year. In April, consumption prices increased by 0.52%, as compared with March when the increase registered 0.67%.

Financial analysts declared for HotNews.ro that the national currency depreciation was one of the main causes to determine the increase of the inflation but that while inflation will drop in the second part of the year it would exceed the national bank target considerably.
