Foreign direct investments in Romania in the first two months of the year amount to 1.2 billion euro, a 40% increase as compared to the similar period last year, according to Romanian Foreign Investments Agency (ARIS) data. For 2008, ARIS experts estimate that foreign direct investments will exceed 7 billion euro, a level close to the one reached in 2007.

ARIS representatives declared that most investments will target greenfield investments and most investors will expand their existing projects in the country. Moreover, they estimate that investors will mainly come from EU member states. However, experts add that Romania became an attractive destination for investors from Asia or US planning to enter the European market.

What counts most according to ARIS experts is that Romanians have highly qualified people in the IT and electronics sector. Moreover, foreign investors are also attracted by the tradition and experience Romanians prove in the automobile industry.
