Arun Sarin, head of the world's largest mobile telecomm operator, Vodafone, will announce his resignation on Tuesday. The retirement of the 53-year old manager will take place in July, Financial Times informs in its online edition.

The decision comes as a shock to the telecomm world, since Sarin denied last year the rumors around his eventual resignation in 2008. The resignation announcement will be made in the same day when Vodafone announces its annual financial results. According to Daily Telegraph, Sarin brought record profits to the company during his five-year management.

Arun Sarin will be replaced by 46-year old Vittorio Colao, the general manager of the European division.
