The Government will allocate during the next five years a total of 20 billion euro for roads and railroads infrastructure development, said Economy and Finance Minister Varujan Vosganian on Thursday, arguing that the infrastructure should become a priority for the economy. Vosganian denied that the announcement may have anything to do with 2008 being an electoral year and says he can not explain why similar investments were not made in the past years.

The 20 billion euro announced as potential investment represent the "minimum offer" of the Finance Ministry for the central and the local administration. The Government will soon demand County Councils to present their running or planned infrastructure projects.
