The Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR) managed to maintain itself on first position among Romanian top banks regarding market share with 23.4%, an annual report of the Romanian National Bank reads. BCR is closely followed by BRD - SocGen with 15.5% and Raiffeisen with 6.3%. Even though all three banks managed to maintain the same position as in 2006, they lost some of the market share to smaller banks.
Only eight of the 41 banks in Romania have more than 5% market share, including Transilvania Bank with 5.5%, Bancpost with 5.3% and Unicredit Tiriac with 5.1%. Total assets in the banking system amount to 69.47 billion euro at the end of 2007, a 45% increase as compared to the level registered in 2006.
