Bucharest and the counties of Ilfov and Alba reported fewer real estate transactions in 2008 as compared to the previous year, while in all other counties the number of deals rose this year. The fewest transactions in 2008 were reported in the counties of Teleorman, Mehedinti and Olt, according to data provided by a key authority in the sector, ANCPI.

For the first time this year, fewer transactions were reported at the ANCPI in August 2008 than the same period a year ago. August 2008 was also the month with the fewest transactions this year except January.

The downward trend started in March this year, from 67,800 deals to 59,000 in May/June, followed by a slight rise to 63,000 in July and a new drop to 58,700 in August.

The counties of Timis, Caras Severin, Arad in Western Romania and Braila in Eastern Romania reported the highest boost in property transactions.
