Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu announced that he would take a common position with his Hungarian and Polish counterparts against banks that, sustained in other states with public funds, used speculative operations against the Romanian national currency. He added that he would meet on Monday with the Hungarian Prime Minister and on Tuesday with the Polish PM to establish a common stand.

Tariceanu criticized the irresponsible attitude of banks and decided to take serious measures to prevent such actions in the future, Romanian news agency Mediafax informs. He declared that such actions lacked any morals.

Romania's Competition Council has announced that it has started up an investigation on the banking and inter-banking system to establish which banks attacked the national currency.
