The new version of the environmental car tax came into force Thursday, February 19 as the government's emergency ordinance was published in the Official Journal. The new tax is lower than its late last year's value and double as compared to its July 2008 value.
The environmental car tax was reduced by one third by the Government and PM Boc had declared that the new version would come into force as soon as it is published in the Official Journal.
Used car owners that bought or ordered a car order before December 2008 but did not register it, have 20 days to submit the necessary documents and pay the car tax in its old version.
Those who purchased that car before December 15 and paid the tax accordingly, will receive a refund: owners have to fill up the necessary documents in 90 days since the ordinance came into force.
