The management of the ArcelorMittal Galati steel plant has decided to send all 12,500 employees in technical unemployment starting April 1, in six series of ten days each, the plant trade union announced on Friday, according to Romanian news agency NewsIn.

The decision applies for three months starting April 1, according to trade union head Gheorghe Tiber. He said employees will leave in six series of 2,000 people each and they will remain in technical unemployment for ten days each. During the time they will be paid with 75% of their salaries and with bonuses for their time with the company, while all other payments will be canceled.

According to the same source, the ArcelorMittal Galati does not exclude the possibility that after the three months workers be forced into ten-day leaves unless production restarts.
