New car registrations in Romania dropped by 52% in April to 11,000 units while second hand car registrations increased by 49%, to 22,900 cars, Romania's Driver's License and Registration Department data reveals.

New car registrations dropped from over 23,000 units in April 2008 to a little over 11,000 in April 2009. Dacia maintained its top position on the market, with 3,500 cars registered, but marked a 40% decrease compared to the similar month, last year. The second place was occupied by Skoda with 1,100 cars registered, followed by Renault with 900 cars.

When it comes to second hand cars, registrations increased by 49% up to 22,900 cars compared to 15,400 in 2008. However, the number was slightly lower than March 2009 when there were 52,000 second hand cars registered.
