New car sales in Romania dropped by 55% in the first four months of the year to less than 50,000 units but exports increased by 62% due to the national programs aimed at stimulating local car industries, Romania's car Producers and Importers Association data reveals. Dacia increased its market share at 27% while Hyundai hit a record share of 8.5%.

Almost 50,000 units were sold in the first four months of the year compared to 110,000 cars in the same period, last year. However, exports registered some 72,000 units compared to 44,000 last year.

After four months, Dacia gained a market share of 27% with some 13,000 cars sold compared to a 25.8% market share last year. Closely following, Hyundai sold some 4,200 cars to hit a record market share of 8.5%.
