Drivers may pay a tax to use Romanian highways starting with summer 2011, Transport minister Radu Beceanu has said, as quoted by Mediafax. He said the tax would be "average" - up to 3-4 euro per 100 km. The money thus obtained would be used for highway maintenance.

Berceanu said Romanian authorities were working on a strategy to tax highway sectors on the IVth Pan-European corridor, a document which would be submitted to the European Commission.
