Foreign direct investments increased in the first five months to 1.43 billion euro, a 31.5% drop compared to the similar period in 2009 National Central Bank data reveals. Direct investments of non-residents in Romania financed by 50% the current account deficit in January - May 2010 which totalled 2.86 billion euro.

Of the total foreign direct investments, most represented capital participations, about 1.20 billion euro compared to 1.24 billion euro in the January - May 2009. Intra-group credits were 228 million euro, compared with 854 million euro in the same period of last year.

In 2009, the value of the foreign direct investments was 4.89 billion euro, half of that registered in 2008.
