The current account deficit of the balance of payments increased in the last seven months by 38.5% compared to the similar period, last year to 3.79 billion euro, Romania's National Central Bank reads. In January - July 2009, the current account deficit was 2.74 billion euro.

The current account deficit started to increase after the first two months of the year, after 13 years of correction. What influenced the increase was the current balance of transfers, which registered a sum lower by 32% than January - July 2009.

The deficit of the commercial balance decreased by 5.5%. The deficit of the revenues balance amouted 1.51 billion euro, a 13% increase than the same period last year, while the balance of goods and services registered a deficit of 3.82 billion euro compared to 3.67 billion euro in the similar period last year. The current account deficit was financed in the first seven months by foreign direct investments by 50.3%.
