Liberal (PNL) Transports minister Ludovic Orban, incumbent Democratic (PD-L) mayor Adriean Videanu and Social Democrats (PSD) spokesperson Cristian Diaconescu are possible candidates running for the top job at the Bucharest City Hall, according to sources from the three parties. Parties have already started talks on nominations for local elections due to take place in Romania this year.

The Social Democrats (PSD) seem to take into consideration several names among whom party vice-president Victor Ponta or spokesman Cristian Diaconescu. According to sources within the party, party leader Mircea Geoana intends to throw Cristian Diaconescu into the race.

PSD Senator Diaconescu is said to be most popular among Bucharest citizens. However, the two do not seem to be very excited by their perspective. According to HotNews.ro sources, Victor Ponta doesn't have too many chance to be nominated.

Incumbent Democratic mayor Adriean Videanu is not very certain he would decide to run again. Thus, Democrats have former Interior minister Vasile Blaga as backup. However, his chances to win the seat are lower.

Liberal party officials argue that Transports minister Ludovic Orban and Bucharest Ddistrict 1 mayor Andrei Chiliaman are their top choices. In a HotNews.ro - BBC interview, Ludovic Orban declared that he might run for mayor if the party would support him for the job.
