Romania's new Justice minister Catalin Predoiu officially took over his job from interim Justice minister Teodor Melescanu on Monday. Predoiu underlined on the occasion that he was a politically independent minister and that from this stand he would give special attention to the independence of the justice acts and to uphold these principles.

While Predoiu is not a member of a political party, in his youth he joined the youth wing of the Liberal party PNL in 1991. However, since 1992 he focused solely upon his career and academic activity.

Predoiu announced that he requested his resignation as a lawyer and he gave up any other public positions or businesses he held as he took office. Moreover, he urged political parties to support and accelerate justice reforms in order to prevent corruption acts.
