Voting in local elections continued in Voinesti, Iasi county in North Eastern Romania on Sunday despite one of the two candidates for mayor died earlier in the day. The Central Electoral Office announced it could not make a decision before the voting process ended and it could not interrupt it because law in Romania says nothing about such cases.

A decision on the voting process in Voinesti is due in the coming days.

The PSD candidate for the seat of Voinesti mayor died in hospital on Sunday morning, according to Romanian news station Realitatea TV. Neculai Ivascu, 58, was suffering of liver condition. He'd been serving as Voinesti mayor since 1990.
