Influential Social Democratic (PSD) leaders Ioan Rus, Vasile Dancu and Vasile Puscas, also known as the Group of Cluj for their influence within the party, resigned from all functions held in the party on Tuesday. The three remained however simple members of the PSD.

The press release informs that the three will continue their social democratic projects within the Social Democratic Institute Foundation in Transylvania, Central Romania.

Former PSD leader Ion Iliescu declared that this move was expected due to the weak performances registered in the local June elections. Iliescu declared that it was an act of common sense and that he hoped the three would be useful for the party in future.

Former Romanian PM Adrian Nastase declared at his turn that he was not sure their decision was a good one for the party. Moreover, he said that he hoped that their decisions were temporary.
