Cozmin Gusa, president of the National Initiative Party, will resign as president of the party and will completely withdraw from any political activities. Gusa has already informed the other leaders of the party about his intentions and a congress will be called for on February 7 to elect a new party president.

Gusa announced that the party would take up nominations until February 5. Sources within the party, quoted by Romanian news agency NewsIn announced that the current leader would take a leading seat in a media trust.

The National Initiative Party failed to receive the necessary threshold to enter the Parliament in the November 2008 elections.
