The Romanian Government has decided to replace Liviu Mihaiu with Grigore Baboianu as governor of the Danube Delta, Environment minister Nicolae Nemirschi announced in a press conference on Wednesday. Nemirschi did not elaborate on the reasons of the replacement.

Grigore Baboianu has been serving as deputy executive head of the Administration of the Danube Delta Reservation.

Liviu Mihaiu, formerly a journalist, was named governor of the Danube Delta in September last year. He then replaced Paul Cononov when the latter was named personal aide for Liberal prime minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu.

Mihaiu has long been an activist of the Save Danube Delta organization, which organized environmental programs in the Delta.
