By 9 PM, 27.21% of Romanians came to vote in the country, according to the Central Electoral Office (BEC) spokesperson Marian Muhulet. On a national level, the rural areas saw a 36.56% turnout. The urban area recorded a 20.40% turnout.

The biggest turnout was recorded in Teleorman (South Romania) – 48.83%, Ilfov (South) – 41.31%, Harghita (Central) – 40.87%, Mehedinti (South-West) – 40.70% and Salaj (North-West) – 40.10%.

Constanta saw the least voters coming to exercice their option – 20.74%, followed by Sibiu (Central) – 21.08%, Iasi (East) – 22.13%, Timis (West) – 22.21%, Maramures (North) – 22.51%.

By 9PM, Bucharest recorded a 15.92% turnout.

7 PM: 21.63% of Romanian voters showed up at polling stations across the country in European Parliament elections by 7.00 p.m. on Sunday, the central electoral commission announced. Turnout in rural areas nationally stood at 29.02%, while only 16.26% of voters in urban areas showed up and voted by 7 p.m..

The highest turnout was reported in the county of Teleorman - 37.67%, followed by Ilfov with 32.46% and Harghita with 33.46%. The lowest turnout beside Bucharest was reported in the counties of Sibiu (16.23%), Constanta (16.67%) and Ialomita (17.42%).

Only 12.83% of voters in capital city Bucharest voted by 7 p.m., with the highest turnout in District 1 (15.8%) and the lowest in District 3 (10.71%).

According to Romania's Foreign Ministry, some 9,600 Romanian citizens voted at polling stations abroad by 7 p.m. Romanian time on Sunday.
