Chiefs of the General Prosecutor's Office, of the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) and of the Authority for Investigation of Organised Crime and Terrorism Offences (DIICOT) will earn more than ministers and MPs: 11.4 minimum salaries monthly. This is still less than the head of the Executive, who will get 11.8 minimum incomes, alongside the speakers of the two parliamentary chambers, the presidents of the High Justice Court, the Constitutional Court, the Magistrates Superior Council, the general prosecutor and Romania's Court of Accounts' chief. This is featured by the last income scheme draft, Romanian press agency NewsIn announces.

Executive representatives are meeting on Tuesday morning with the unions to discuss the final draft of the unique income law, for which the Government intends to take responsibility during its Wednesday's session. Several state employees' categories are unhappy by the law's final form. The Justice employees seem to show the biggest dissatisfaction: they suspended partially their activity, some of them starting yesterday, some of them starting today.

What the income law entails:

  • Romania's President is the sole statesman with a maximum income coefficient - 12 minimum salaries.
  • The heads of the most important legal institutions (Prosecutor's Office, DNA, DIICOT) will earn 11.4 minimum salaries, just like a state minister.
  • On the other hand, a minister will earn 11.2 salaries and a MP, less than 10 salaries (9.6).
  • The vice-PM will rank three in the income top, with 11.6% minimum incomes.
