The social-democratic leader Mircea Geoana submitted his candidacy on Wednesday for the presidential elections to the Central Electoral office. Geoana announced that he had raised 2.5 million supporting signatures.

Mircea Geoana said he could unite Romania with a national project that would be a project for all Romanians. "I can unite the Romanians around me", he said. He said the people and their children's lives depended on the result of the coming elections.

He wished for the opportunity to see ex-Romanian PSD president Ion Iliescu passing on the task to the future President from the same party, Mircea Geoana. He concluded by asking all Romanians to come massively to the polls.
