Romanian president Traian Basescu and Spanish Government head Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero agreed to seal a Romanian - Spanish strategic partnership. The agreement will be signed this year, the Romanian Presidential Administration informs, without mentioning a specific date.

During the discussions held in Brussels on Friday, March 26, the two agreed to intensify the economic cooperation between Romania and Spain. This would include, among others, Spanish companies getting involved in Romanian infrastructure projects.

President Traian Basescu declared that Romania will support the Spanish Presidency of the European Union Council during this time of frequent institutional changes triggered by the Lisbon Treaty and by the economic and social challenges the Union faces.
