The Cooperation and Verification Mechanism for Justice and internal affairs will be maintained in Romania and Bulgaria "for as long as necessary", general manager of the European Commission for Justice, Freedom and Security department Jonathan Faull said yesterday, June 8.

The European official avoided to nominate a clear span of time over which the mechanism is going to be kept, Romanian news agency Mediafax informs, quoting Bulgarian news agency FOCUS.

Jonathan Faull underlined the positive evolution acknowledged in the seasonal report the European Commission prepares for the two countries, but he stressed that there were "still many things to be done". He reminded Bulgaria and Romania their common purpose, namely to have an independent judicial system and to combat corruption.
