"I salute and support Prime-Minister's Emil Boc very brave programme, European parliament president Jerzy Buzek declared after meeting the Romanian PM. "It is a painful programme, but i can assure you it will be very useful. In moments of crisis, one needs to take the necessary measures, not the convenient ones. Many other European states take similar measures", Buzek added.

The European Parliament president considers that this period of crisis will pass and "the Romanian people will be proud of what it has accomplished". "I am convinced that it is a difficult period for many families in Romania, but this period will pass", Jerzy Buzek stressed.

During talks with PM Emil Boc, EP president stated again the same thing as this morning, after meeting the Deputies' Speaker Roberta Anastase: "I've just returned from Greece, where a programme similar to Romania's is proposed, and I have assured the Greek Government of all my support. It is like a medicine that, although it does not taste well, must be taken to recover".

EP president Jerzy Buzek is currently on a one-day visit to Bucharest. His agenda also includes meeting president Traian Basescu, the Senate's Speaker Mircea Geoana and Foreign Affairs minister Teodor Baconschi.

Jerzy Buzek visit to Romania was initially scheduled for April, but was postponed because of the Polish nation's morning over the loss of it president and other high officials in the plane crash from Smolensk, Russia.
