The restrictions on the labor market in Italy will be maintained for one more year for Romanian immigrants. The decision belongs to the Italian government and it was sent to social solidarity and Interior Ministries in the country, on January 4. The supplementary year comes as a prolonging of the transition period, valid in 2007, which allowed immigrants to obtain jobs only in specific areas, such as agriculture, personal assistance, constructions, hotel services, mechanical and management.

The full liberalization of the labor market for Romanians will take place after January 1, 2008. Until then, Romanians who want to get jobs, other than the one above, must obtain a special approval from the Unique Immigration Office.
