European President Hans Gert Poettering urged political leaders wishing to attend the opening of the Olympic Games in China this summer to reconsider their position, Reuters informs, quoting a German radio. EP President argued that he did not reject the idea to boycott the Olympics in sign of protest of Chinese policies in Tibet.

Poettering declared that he would consider all available options but that it was still too early to predict what his actions would be. Poettering's reaction comes as a protest against the brutal repression of the Tibet revolts by the Chinese army.

Poettering added that somehow, China must be compelled to take another peaceful position against the protesters. German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged Beijing to restrain from violent acts but did not mention anything about the Olympic games.

On the other hand, the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge declared on Tuesday morning that there could not be any boycott and no other members affiliated to the Committee requested such an action through official sources.

On the other side, Chinese PM Wen Jiabao said on Tuesday that he held information that the protests in Tibet were ordered by Dalai Lama supporters. However, the accusation has been rejected by the Tibetan leader.
