Zero tolerance for Romanians committing crimes in Italy and the creation of mixed Romanian-Italian police patrols - this is what European Commissioner Franco Frattini proposes for the electoral campaign as polls approach in Italy, daily Il Tempo reports.

Frattini said during a press conference on fighting crime and terrorism that there was too much tolerance for felons in Italy than in Romania and therefore, Italian authorities needed to cooperate with their Romanian counterparts in order to reinstate order. Frattini underlined the importance of the fight against criminality rate and against terrorism.

Justice and Interior Affairs European Commissioner Frattini has taken one month off his European duties in order to support Silvio Belusconi in his electoral campaign. The Italian press argues that should Berlusconi win the elections Frattini would be appointed Interior minister.
