Two Romanian members of the European Parliament, Magor Imre Csibi and Daciana Sarbu submitted in Strasbourg this week a written declaration in which they demand new measures to protect and manage green areas in cities all over the Union. The two MEPs demand the Commission to regulate the management of green areas.

The two consider that these measures are needed since there are a lot of real estate projects, especially in Romania in which green areas are not well managed and even ignored both by authorities and private companies.

Nonetheless, Magor Csibi declared that the Romanian government has made significant improvements to regulate environmental laws and allocated for 2008 alone some 60 million Romanian Ron to improve the quality of the environment. However, regions have even more influence in the area since they are entitled to access European cohesion funds between 2007-2013.

In order to gain official recognition, the document must gain by November this year half plus one signatures in the European Parliament.
