Romania President Traian Basescu urged local companies on Monday to get involved in major projects adopted at a Mediterranean summit these days, projects amounting to over seven billion euro. The six major projects create an exceptional framework for Romanian companies which have been traditionally involved in African states and should return there as it is a safe environment guaranteed by the European Union, Basescu said on his return from the Paris summit.

The six projects adopted by 43 heads of state and government aim at: cutting pollution levels in the Mediterranean region by 2020; completing maritime and terrestrial highways across the region; cooperation in civil protection activities; developing renewable resources to encourage alternative energy; strengthening education programs; and an initiative for development and business stimulating small and medium enterprises.

Basescu recalled that Romanian companies have contributed to the building of refineries, roads, water and hydrocarbon drilling and irrigation systems in Mediterranean markets.
