UN experts condemned the measures taken by Italian authorities to create a database with fingerprints of members of the Gypsy community, declaring that this decision can without doubt be considered as discriminatory, AFP informs.

Italian authorities linked an explicit link between high criminality rates and the presence of Gypsies in the country, which created a climate of hostility, antagonism and stigmatization, UN special rapporteur on racism issues, Doudou Diene declared in a common declaration cosigned by the UN minority rapporteur and UN immigration rights rapporteur.
