Russian Tu-160 and Tu-95M bomber planes could be placed in Cuba as a direct response of the American anti-missile shield bases in Poland and the Czech Republic, the Russian daily Izvestia reads. According to the newspaper, owned by Gazprom, no official political decision was taken yet but the subject is under debate.

According to experts, the initiative is not likely to materialize but it is a propaganda-style answer to the US anti-missile shield in Central and Eastern Europe. Russian International Military Cooperation former chief Leonid Ivashov declared that Russia can use Cuba as a strategic point.
