German Economy minister Michael Glos considers some state gas reserves so that his country, dependent on Russia, to be safe in case relations with Russia get worse, German newspapers read on Friday.

The Georgian conflict shows that we need to free ourselves from Russian dependency, Glos declared for the German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. German gas reserves made by private groups are evaluated at some 20 billion cubic meters, the publication reads. However, reserves are used only when demand increases in cold seasons.

Germany is extremely dependent on Russian gas which covers 40% of the country's needs. However, lately, relations with Moscow are on the edge due to the Georgian conflict.
