The European Commission authorized on Monday EU-level imports of genetically modified soy A2704-12, used for food products and animal food, AFP reports. within the Union of products containing genetically modified soy used in food products, Agence France Presse informs. The authorization is valid for a 10 year period and all products will be strictly labeled and will comply with European standards on food control.
EU member states did not manage to reach a qualified majority to adopt this decision and thus the file was sent to the Commission. Since the European authority for food safety positively appreciated those products, the Commission officials approved the file.
