The European Commission decided on Thursday to send the cases of Romania and Bulgaria to the European Court of Justice for the deficiencies noted in the implementation of the 112 emergency call service. Still, EC offered a three-months deadline in which Romania may still solve the situation. Romanian Telecom Ministry answered that the new call localization solution was tested and there will be no trial, since the deadline is enough to allow Romania solve its problem.

Romania and Bulgaria are on totally different positions: the 112 service is unavailable in all Bulgaria, while Romania still has problems in identifying the caller when mobile phones are used.

The Romanian IT&C Ministry promised that the situation will be solved before November 20, 2008, in which case the European Commission will automatically close the infringement procedures against Romania.
