The girl was raped and her boyfriend was beaten. The attackers stole their belongings including money and cellphones. In the area, on Rome's outskirts, there are some illegal Rroma camps. When informed, Rome's mayor Gianni Alemanno, who was visiting Slovenia, contacted Rome's law enforcement authorities immediately.
He declared that, after talking to Rome's police chief, he learned the two aggressors had an Eastern accent and a darker skin. Alemanno added that the problem of illegal immigrants has become a social emergency and authorities needed to act immediately, without any tolerance against felons.
Six Romanians were arrested in Rome after raping a 21 year old Italian girl in the Guidonia suburb on January 22. Four of the suspects were retained and two presumed accomplices were placed in home detention.
