Romania's Transports minister Radu Berceanu declared in a press conference on Friday that there is a new concept of funding methods for highway construction works which, if applied, will bring about more money available for such works.

Berceanu explained that the new concept implies the construction of very complicated and expensive highway segments - like Sibiu-Pitesti or Sibiu - Ramnicu Valcea that need tunnels or viaducts and that the best solution is to offer concessions to interested international consortiums.

Berceanu declared that these companies will also have to take up the existent segments, that they will manage for 20 to 25 years, depending on the international public tenders, NewsIn informs.

According to the minister, if authorities will manage to partially change the financing procedure and be able to introduce the new idea the state will have plenty of money to use for national roads. The Transports minister declared a week ago that this year some 70 km of highway will be build.
