The unemployment rate increased with 0.1% in May, reaching 5.8%. The total number of unemployed is 526,803, according to the data released by the National Agency for Work Force (ANOFM). The number of people who lost their job in May is 9,062. The total number of unemployed in April was 517,741.

229.184 unemployed were women. The unemployment rate in their case is 5.4%.

According to ANOFM, the biggest unemployment rate were recorded in Vaslui county (East Romania, 12%), followed by Mehedinti (South-West, 10.3%) and Teleorman (South) and Alba (Central Romania, 9.2% each). On the other side, the regions to record the lowest level of unemployment are Ilfov (South, 1.6%), Bucharest (South, 1.8%) and Timis (West, 3%).
