UPDATE Sorana Cirstea qualified in the Grand Slem third round at Wimbledon today, winning two sets against Indian Sania Mirza. Favourite no. 28, Sorana won the first set 6-4 after 40 minutes. The Romanian managed several strikes to which the Indian had no solution.

The second set has been more balanced, but Sorana managed to win after saving several breaks: another 6-4 scored in 42 minutes. This is the best performance in the 19 year old Romanian tennis player, continuing the good evolution she demonstrated in Roland Garros. The two players have never played against each other before.

Unfortunately for Romania's tennis team, Raluca Olaru was eliminated from the competition by Victoria Azarenka, score 6-0, 6-0

Azarenka, the player from Belarus, favourite no. 8, had a very good start of the year: she got to the quarter finals in Australian Open, won the tours in Brisbane, Memphis and Miami (against Serena Williams and Kuznetsova), reached in the semi-finals in Indian Wells (taken world leader Safina out of the competitions) and in Rome. For the last Grand Slam tour, she qualified in the quarter finals.

Maria Sharapova opened Wimbledon today on the Central Field, followed by Federer. The Swiss plays against Spanish Guillermo Gracia-Lopez (no.42 ATP) for the third time in the circuit. So far, Fererer won each time. The winner of this match will play in the third round against the winner in the Kohlschreiber - Minar confrontation. Serbian Djokovicmeets plays against German Simon Greul.
