Romanian consul to Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, Ioan Nuica resigned on Monday after a video in which he is taped undertaking sexual intercourse with an employee of the diplomatic mission.
UPDATE Romania's Foreign Affairs ministry confirmed for Hotnews.ro that Nuica was called in the country last week and he resigned on Monday. Also on Monday, Moldovan civil society representatives are visiting Romania, invited by Romania's State Secretary Eugen Tomac.
The video registered by a hidden camera was published on Monday by Moldovan daily Curentul. However, no one knows who made the vide but the newspaper reads that it might be taped by Moldovan citizens.
The scandal follows a series of tensions between Romania and Moldova. Moldovan authorities accused their Romanian counterparts of being involved in the violent outbreak that followed the Moldovan legislative elections in May.
