The incumbent Moldavian President Vladimir Voronin announced, with a press statement, that he gives up the power in favour of his pro-Occident opponents.

"I surrender the power to my opponents, without will and without trusting they are capable of leading the country!", Voronin said, quoted by news agency Ria Novosti and the press in Chisinau.

"I don't believe in their ability to make a unite team able to lead the country and which is driven by national interests and not by personal endeavours", Voronin added.

Vladimir Voronin announced on September 2 that he is to give up the presidency, opting for a deputy mandate.
