UPC will launch in Romania a package of High Definition (HD) TV channels on September 29, UPC Holding communications vice-president Bert Holtkamp announced. Moreover, the operator will introduce in Romania two new services on September 15, for the holders of a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) contract: browsing the TV programmes and recording TV shows.

The HD TV package was previously announced to include eight TV channels: TVR, PRO TV, HBO, Eurosport, History Channel, National Geographic, Fashion TV and BBC. UPC Romania officials did not want to confirm if the channels will be changed or not.

UPC Holding marketing vice-president Andrew Kearney also announced the launch of two new services on the DVR platform: "Serious linking" and TV Search. But in Romania, the services will have other names. The first will allow browsing and the second - recording TV programmes.

Plus, UPC will be testing a digital TV platform for kids. KidZone will allow children to choose shows. The service is forecasted to be launched in the middle of next year.

UPC Holding has made no secret of their intention to launch on-demand video services in several South-Eastern European countries. The company is currently offering these services in Hungary, and the UPC official says that the same services will be launched this year "in another country from the region".
