Moscow's Embassy representatives in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, decided to encircle the building with a barbed wire fence. Several workers at the Russian Embassy installed a stretch of barbed wire on the institution's fence on Tuesday afternoon, January 12 2010, Unimedia informs, without giving more details on the decision of the Russian officials.

The gesture comes after the Filat Government announced that the barbed wire fence at Moldova's border with Romania, isolating the Soviet Union's territory, will be taken out.

After Vlad Filat's declaration, ex-Ungheni rayon and current Moldovan Communist Party (PCRM) councillor Vasile Gaviuc threatened that "taking out the fence will lead to an increase in the Moldovan borders trespass attempts, which is established to be the middle line of Prut river, the drowning cases will increase, as well as the unauthorised rubbish centres because the town is close to water", Jurnal.md reads.
