Romania's government named Declan O'Loan, member of the Social Democratic Party and member of the Northrtn Ireland Parliament as honorific consul of Romania in Northern Ireland. O'Loan, aged 58, mathematics teacher and father of five children is a local counselor in his hometown Ballymena, where most Romanian citizens reside, after Belfast, the capital city.

The new consul declared that he intends to promote a better cultural understanding but also tourism and commerce between the two countries. He said that he will do anything in his powers to represent the interests of the country.

O'Loan is an important politician in Northern Ireland and I am sure he will represent and promote Romania's interests, Romanian Ambassador to England and Northern Ireland Ioan Jinga said.
