Police have used tear gas against people throwing rocks and bottles at them during protests against austerity measures in Athens, Greece, Reuters reports.

Greece is in national level general strike against the measures imposed by the IMF and the EU on Wednesday.

A police official was quoted as saying protesters were throwing rocks and plastic bottles and that the police were forced to use tear gas to disperse them.

The Romanian Foreign Ministry earlier today informed citizens willing to travel to Greece these days about the 24 hour strike organised by Greek trade unions, a strike which would affect road, railway and sea transports.
