Bucharest Precinct 10 police caught the man shortly afterwards. The man was identified as O. Bruno, a 46-year old French citizen. a police press release said the woman, 72, carried money, personal documents and a mobile phone in her purse.
The stolen goods, amounting to some 700 Romanian lei, were recovered and turned to the old woman.
A European arrest warrant had been issued on O. Bruno's name. He was placed under preventive arrest for 29 days.
