Romania Justice minister Tudor Chiuariu submitted his resignation officially on Monday, several days after President Traian Basescu urged PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu to dismiss him and fellow Labor minister. Tudor Chiuariu's resignation letter reached PM Tariceanu at noon, internal sources at the Chancellery said.

Liberal party members announced that they didn't name a replacement for Chiuariu as a decision would be taken at future party meetings.

State secretary in the Justice Ministry, Gheorghe Mocuta is one name favored by Liberal Party members, sources within the party have told HotNews.ro. Other names put forward were those of the Renate Weber, who led the Liberal Party list in recent EP elections in Romania, as well as that of the Liberal Party vice-president Norica Nicolai. However, PM Tariceanu does not favor Norica Nicolai for the position.
