Romanian PM Tariceanu asked President Traian Basescu on Tuesday to accept an interim Justice Minister in order to avoid an institutional blockage, a press release of the Government informs. Tariceanu proposed Teodor Melescanu, current Defense Minister to temporarily occupy the Justice seat, left vacant after the resignation of minister Tudor Chiuariu late last year.

The Presidency announced shortly that President Basescu has accepted the nomination.

Melescanu was selected as interim as the prime minister and President Basescu have failed to find a compromise over the nomination of Liberal senator Norica Nicolai for the seat fo Justice minister for more than a week. Nicolai was nominated for the job by PM Tariceanu, but President Traian Basescu said he opposed the nomination as Nicolai, he claimed, did not have the proper moral background for such a responsibility.
