Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, who was arrested in Thailand last week, has said he was in Bangkok as a tourist and not as an arms dealer. He denied any accusations on Saturday, a police officer declared, quoted by Reuters. According to the Romanian television Realitatea TV, Bout was planning to come in Romania, end of February, to deal with representatives of the Columbian revolutionary armed forces.

The deal was worth 5 million dollars for some rockets which he was due to send from Bulgaria to Latin America.

Apparently, the Columbians were actually American officers, working undercover. Moreover, authorities did not manage to arrest accomplice Andrew Smulian, who contacted the two parties. According to American agents, talks with Smulian were conducted in Romania.
